REDICT / LEGAL

Privacy Policy

How Redict handles your learning materials, app diagnostics, purchases and support messages — and the choices you have.

1. Who is responsible

Redict is provided by Dmitry Schavlik (“we”, “us”). He is the controller responsible for the personal information processed to operate and support Redict. For privacy questions or requests, email redict.app@gmail.com.

This policy covers the Redict apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac, the website at redict.app, and related support. It describes the current service; available features and processing can differ by app version, device, permissions and purchase status. This policy explains processing and does not itself ask you to consent to optional tracking.

2. Your materials, profile and synchronization

Redict stores information needed for your learning on your device: dictionary history, saved words, cards and collections, imported books and articles, notes and attachments, reading positions, exercise results, preferences, and profile details you choose to enter, such as a name or picture.

The app does not require a separate Redict email-and-password account. Apple services may require your Apple Account. When supported and enabled, synchronization uses Apple’s iCloud and CloudKit to transfer learning data and attachments between your devices. Some preferences also use iCloud key-value storage. Switching off library synchronization does not necessarily switch off every iCloud preference or remove previously synchronized copies.

If you deliberately share or export a collection, book, quotation or progress report, its contents go to the people or services you select. Sharing makes that information subject to the recipient’s handling as well. Keep a separate copy of materials you cannot replace.

3. Online language, media and reading features

The built-in dictionary performs lookups locally. Other features involve network requests:

  • Online translation: the word or text submitted for translation, source and target languages, and connection information are sent to Google Cloud Translation or Microsoft Translator. A selected passage can contain personal information if you put it there.
  • Image search: queries and image requests are sent to the selected image provider, Unsplash or Pixabay. Those providers receive network information such as your IP address.
  • Speech recognition: microphone audio used for dictation or speaking exercises is processed through Apple’s speech services. Processing may occur on the device or Apple’s servers, depending on the language and device capabilities.
  • Camera and photo tools: text and object recognition use on-device Apple frameworks. Recognized text can then be submitted to an online translation service when that feature is used. Images or other media you insert into learning materials can be stored locally and synchronized through iCloud.
  • Online library: catalog and download requests use Google Firebase Database and Storage. The infrastructure processes technical request information to deliver content and protect the service.
  • Web reading and external dictionaries: opening an external page, including in the app’s browser, connects to that website. Its operator may receive your IP address and use its own cookies or tracking technologies.

4. App analytics and diagnostics

Redict integrates Google Analytics for Firebase, Firebase Crashlytics, Remote Config and App Check. These services help measure feature usage and purchases, diagnose failures, deliver app configuration and protect backend resources. They can process installation or app-instance identifiers, device and operating-system information, app version, event timestamps, network information, crash traces and related technical details.

Some records contain content context: analytics events can include the name of a book you open or the URL of a web favorite, and crash diagnostics can include a dictionary search query, a word being processed, or an imported file’s path or URL. Diagnostic records may be associated with an app-instance identifier. These records can contain personal information and can be transmitted off your device.

On supported iPhone and iPad versions, the app uses the result of Apple’s tracking-permission request to control Firebase Analytics collection. Tracking permission is not a switch for every network request or for crash reporting. Diagnostics and requested online features use separate processing. Controls and SDK behavior can differ on Mac and between releases.

5. Advertising in the app

The free app can display banner, native and rewarded advertisements through Google AdMob. Advertising services may process IP addresses, approximate location inferred from the IP address, device or app identifiers, ad impressions and interactions, and performance or diagnostic information. Access to Apple’s advertising identifier depends on the applicable system permission.

Refusing tracking permission does not necessarily remove advertisements or prevent all technical data from being processed for ad delivery. You can manage Apple’s tracking permission in your device’s privacy settings. Ad-free access depends on the product you have purchased and the features described in its offer. Redict’s website does not display these in-app advertisements.

See Google’s description of Mobile Ads data collection and Google’s Privacy Policy for the provider’s practices.

6. Purchases and support

Apple processes App Store payments. Redict uses purchase and subscription records, such as product and transaction identifiers, purchase or expiration dates, and entitlement or renewal status, to unlock features, restore purchases and handle access issues. Purchase events may also be recorded by app analytics when enabled. We do not receive your full payment-card number from Apple. The website does not offer a separate checkout.

If you email us, we receive your email address, message, any name you provide and any attachments you send. Support uses the Gmail address shown in this policy. An email prepared from inside the app may also include app and device versions, language or region, an app-instance identifier and information about unlocked purchases. You can review the draft before sending it.

The website’s contact form prepares a draft in your own mail application. Its fields are processed in your browser; they are not submitted to a Redict form-processing server. We receive the message only if you send it. Your mail provider also processes the draft and message according to its own terms. Please avoid sending passwords, payment-card details or unnecessary sensitive information.

7. Website requests and cookies

The current Redict website is a static site delivered through Firebase Hosting. It does not load website analytics, advertising pixels, embedded social feeds or third-party fonts, and it does not set its own advertising or analytics cookies. There is no website account or server-side contact submission.

Hosting infrastructure still handles technical information such as your IP address and request metadata to deliver pages, maintain security and detect abuse. Browser caching and provider infrastructure are different from advertising cookies. External links, including the App Store, have their own privacy practices after you follow them.

Where European data-protection law applies, the legal grounds depend on the purpose:

  • Providing the service you request: processing needed to perform our agreement with you, including online features, purchase validation and support concerning your use of Redict.
  • Security, reliability and necessary support: legitimate interests in protecting the service, investigating problems and responding to requests, balanced against your rights.
  • Optional processing that requires permission: consent where required by law, including relevant tracking and advertising uses. You can withdraw consent; this does not make earlier lawful processing unlawful.
  • Legal obligations: processing needed to comply with applicable requirements or respond to valid legal requests.

Device permissions and a lawful basis for personal-data processing are related but distinct. Declining a camera or microphone permission prevents the corresponding feature from accessing it. Declining an optional feature does not prevent use of unrelated functions such as the local dictionary.

9. Recipients and international processing

Information goes to the providers needed for the feature or purpose described above. Their roles vary: a provider may process information on our behalf, or act independently for its own platform services. Relevant notices include:

We may also disclose information when legally required, to address fraud or threats to rights and safety, or as necessary in a lawful transfer of the business with appropriate confidentiality and data-protection safeguards. We do not offer your private books, cards or support correspondence for sale. Advertising services receive the data described in the advertising section above.

Providers may process information outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, international transfers rely on applicable safeguards, such as the provider’s contractual data-protection commitments and standard contractual clauses. Contact us for information about safeguards relevant to your request.

10. Storage, retention and security

Local materials remain until you delete them or the app’s storage, subject to caches, trash and backups. iCloud copies depend on your synchronization settings, deletion actions and Apple’s backup processes. Uninstalling the app does not necessarily erase cloud copies, provider records or support correspondence.

We retain support messages and related records for as long as needed to handle the request, follow up on an unresolved issue, meet legal obligations or resolve a dispute. Technical and diagnostic records are subject to the relevant service’s retention settings and deletion processes. Purchase records may need to remain available to recognize a continuing entitlement or meet legal requirements. The criteria are the purpose, whether the issue or entitlement is still active, and any applicable retention requirement; we do not promise one deletion period for every type of data.

Access controls, platform protections and encrypted network connections help protect information. No storage or transmission system can guarantee absolute security.

11. Your controls and rights

You can edit or delete supported materials in Redict, manage iCloud storage and backups through Apple, and change camera, photo, microphone, speech, notification and tracking permissions in device settings. Turning off a permission does not automatically delete information already processed. App Store subscription cancellation is a separate action from data deletion.

Depending on your jurisdiction and the circumstances, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing or a portable copy of your personal information; object to processing based on legitimate interests; and withdraw consent. Email redict.app@gmail.com with your request. We may need proportionate information to identify the relevant records and verify that the request is yours. Some data exists only on your devices or in Apple-managed storage, so we may explain how to use the relevant controls instead of retrieving it ourselves.

You may complain to your local data-protection authority. In Poland, this is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO). These rights are subject to applicable law, including obligations to retain particular records and the rights of other people.

12. Children and changes to this policy

Redict is not directed to children under 13. If a child below the applicable age has provided personal information without the necessary parent or guardian involvement, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action. An App Store content age rating is not a statement about eligibility to consent to personal-data processing.

We will update this notice when the service or its data practices change. The date at the top identifies the latest revision. Material changes will receive additional notice or a request for consent where required by law. Privacy questions can always be sent to redict.app@gmail.com.
